| • In Gray Iron, Calcium-bearing 75% Ferrosilicon acts as an inoculant, serving to reduce chill on edges and in thin sectioned castings. The inoculation effect created principally by the controlled calcium content, results in improved graphite shape and increased physical and mechanical properties. The addition of an inoculant also reduces section sensitivity. Typical addition levels to gray iron are 0.3%-0.5% of metal. • In Ductile Iron, Calcium-bearing 75% Ferrosilicon has been the favored inoculant of the ductile iron industry for many years.
